The Dagger is a ship in Tachyon: The Fringe.

Overview[]

Background[]

The Dagger serves as a light interceptor in the Bora fleet and moonlights as their ship of choice for assassinations.[1] True to its name, it is a small fighter with light armor and weaponry, so it performs best when ambushing unarmed targets[2] and unsuspecting pilots[1].

Because these ships lack the firepower necessary to take out stronger targets through traditional means, Daggers are always seen in groups, where their numbers and the element of surprise allow them to overpower their targets.

Alternately, the Dagger makes an ideal scout craft.[3] It is likely inexpensive to manufacture due to its size and poor armor.

Design[]

The Dagger is a small ship but not without its distinct characteristics. Twin arms extend past the cockpit to support cannon mounts, and little winglets flank either side of its engine.

Despite having a relatively large engine, the Dagger is somewhat slow compared to heavier intercept fighters. The thrusters bear a strong resemblance to that of shuttles, which are known to be remarkably slow. Since the Bora build many of their ships by stitching components of other ships together, it is not a stretch to assume that Daggers are outfitted with the engines of decommissioned shuttles.

Unlike most Bora ships, the hull does not feature scarring or blemishes. This could be explained by one of two things: either the ship's hull is built from newer material or the paint job is better on the Dagger than on other models of Bora craft and therefore hides imperfections beneath it.

Armaments[]

The Dagger has two cannon mounts. Most pilots equip this fighter with an Arc Light Laser and Boron Medium Laser. This tepid weapon combo makes the Dagger decent at taking out shields but ineffective at damaging hull.

The cannon fire from the Dagger alternates between its two lasers, and due to the close-set mounts its fire is quite accurate.
