GalSpan Escort is a contract offered at Alpha Starbase.
Story[]
Even corporations as large as GalSpan offer contracts to any pilot willing to take them, much to Jake Logan's relief. He had been flying missions for AGT only a few months earlier, and the familiarity of more corporate contract work is welcome.
A GalSpan operator, Tricia Bales, offers him a simple escort job: guide the light freighter Hesperides to the Hera Sector and quell any Bora terrorist attacks that may arise. Logan had read news articles about the cat-and-mouse fights between the two organizations, but the conflict has always seemed distant and insignificant. The possibility of seeing it firsthand seems surreal.
But when Logan encounters a strike team of two Bora Daggers at Hera Station itself, the concept doesn't seem so surreal anymore. Despite the shock of the attack, he finds the ships a poor match for his flying, as though they had been weak CMI Darts ambushing an AGT mining vessel. The Hesperides docks with Hera Station safely.
However, on the return trip to Alpha Starbase he finds a pilot fending off four Blood Pirate Shrikes on her own in a Piranha fighter. She assures Logan she can handle herself, but he's not fooled. He knows an uneven fight when he sees one; he'd been in the Shrikes' position when he fought the Bora Daggers back in Hera Sector.
He eliminates the Shrikes moments before the woman's fighter is destroyed. The pilot introduces herself as Mishka Shaw, and encourages him quite warmly to consider looking her up in case he ever needed a second gun. She doesn't know he was exiled to Fringe for a crime he didn't commit, but he appreciates the offer.
As he flies back to Alpha, Logan finally gets a moment to relax. Surviving in the Fringe might turn out to be more doable than he previously thought.
Strategy[]
Breakdown[]
- Escort the Hesperides to Hera Sector.
- Destroy 2 Bora Daggers.
- Optional: Save Mishka Shaw in Industrial Sector by destroying 4 Shrikes before they destroy her.
Execution[]
The primary objective is simple. Follow the light freighter Hesperides to Hera Sector, where the first enemy encounter takes place. The light freighter will stop moving and two Bora Daggers by the station will open fire. Daggers are weak ships, comparable to Piranhas but with a weaker loadout. It will be easy to save the Hesperides from them.
The real challenge comes from an optional objective on your way back to base. When you return to Industrial Sector, you have the opportunity to save Mishka Shaw from four Shrikes that ignore you and target only her. She is piloting a Piranha, which is a poor match against the pirates.
First, fire at each of the Shrikes and force them to flee using their afterburners. As long as they are all evading, they won't attack Shaw. Pick them off one by one, always switching targets to the pirate that starts homing back in on her. If Shaw loses her shields, she will warn you that she's feeling exposed. If done right, and with a little luck, you can save her and she will become a wingman for hire in the Job Board.
Unlocks[]
Contracts[]
- Taking Away Independence (must also complete The Blockade)
- Withdraw from Independence (must also complete The Blockade)
Wingmen[]
Trivia[]
- If you destroy the Daggers before the Hersperides stops moving completely in Hera Sector, the contract becomes unwinnable. This is because the objective to destroy the Daggers only appears after the freighter halts. The only way to perform this glitch is to afterburn up to the Daggers and quickly destroy them.
- If you jump to Hera from the Industrial Sector before the Hesperides enters hyperspace and you destroy the daggers before the light freighter stops moving, you will be told the mission is complete. However, leaving the sector prompts a new objective to appear, leading you back to Hera Sector where the Hesperides is indefinitely immobile. You must quit the mission.
