Withdraw from Independence is the first required contract of the Bora storyline. It is offered at Alpha Starbase.

Story[]

At some point during his long career with AGT, Jake Logan reached a point where corporate conflicts and the risks they placed on innocent contract pilots was too much. It is only when he sees the Bora calling for help in the Job Boards that he decides to make his change of heart official.

Since GalSpan won the legal battle to take over Independence Station, the corporation owns it in every way except physically. The Bora know GalSpan is coming to flush them out of the station, so they task Logan to protect departing shuttles that are loaded with passengers.

The GalSpan forces Logan saw on his way to Independence Sector arrive, and he fights to guard the shuttles from harm. The battle is not easy, and the poor armaments of his slow Mako fighter don't help. The Poseidon strike force is equipped with Deimos Heavy Lasers and Swarm Missiles, both of which can tear apart Logan's vulnerable convoy with ease. They pursue the shuttles with a singular focus, ignoring Logan completely. Soon Logan's comm is filled with the cries of the shuttle pilots warning him that their shields can't hold much longer.

The Bora carrier Integrity could not have arrived sooner. While Logan chases the Posiedons down, the shuttles drift aboard the capital ship to safety, and the carrier enters hyperspace. The shuttles and their crews have escaped.

But the victory is short-lived. The rest of the GalSpan attack force appear late to the battle. The Bora balk at the force of Pegasuses, Archangels, and more Poseidons, as well as a destroyer capital ship. But Logan and the Bora have done their job. They escape while they still can and leave Independence behind for the last time.

Back at base the operator who offered Logan the mission, Anna Highfall, thanks him for his help, unaware of how closely the shuttles had come to destruction. Just when Logan thinks he couldn't stand flying the Mako anymore, Highfall adds that his economy fighter would be stripped for spare parts, likely for the Bora cause. As compensation, he's given a Cutlass, a credit bonus, and the codes to the Hub's Bora Region mega-gate.

Logan knows his actions today have turned GalSpan into an enemy, but the reassurance of working against the corporation, especially to protect a people who had colonized the Fringe long before GalSpan started coming through to claim mining sectors, brushes away his concern. He's part of the Bora now, and his new people are eager to command his talents.

Strategy[]

Breakdown[]

  1. Fly to Independence Sector.
  2. Protect 3 shuttles from attacking ships. At least 1 must survive.

Execution[]

In Scrap Yards Sector, after a short wait, three Poseidons and three Pegasuses will spawn by the Frontier mega-gate. Wait by the gate for them to appear. The Posiedons, group Gemini, are the only ships that attack the shuttles in Independence Sector. Destroy the Poseidons here and proceed to Independence. You may destroy the Pegasuses as well.

Once in Independence Sector, you will find yourself well-accompanied: you have 11 proximity space mines, nine Cutlasses, three Battleaxes, and three Maces to back you up. Wait for the Bora shuttles to leave Independence and to dock with the Bora carrier Integrity, which spawns after a short amount of time.

Three Pegasuses (if you didn't destroy them previously) and three more Poseidons will enter the sector from the Scrap Yards gate. Since you destroyed Poseidon group Gemini already, no ships will target the shuttles. You can destroy the intruders to pass the time. You can also leave and re-enter the sector to force the Integrity to spawn faster.

As soon as the shuttles are aboard the Integrity, the carrier will enter hyperspace, and the mission is over. Three more Poseidons will appear from the Scrap Yards gate, but you don't need to deal with them. Once you return to base, your Mako and everything equipped to it will be lost, but you will be compensated 8,500 credits and a Cutlass.

Notes[]

  • Although the mission description says you get 9,625 credits for completing the mission, you are actually awarded 18,125. This includes the flat 8,500 credits from the Bora acquiring your Mako.

Trivia[]

  • There are two squads of Enforcers patrolling the Star Patrol Farpost Sector. If you fire on them, they and the station will become hostile. Six more Enforcers will arrive with a neutral allegiance, and they will also come under fire from the station and other units.
  • If you wait long enough in Independence Sector after the Integrity has left, four Pegasuses, four Archangels, and a GalSpan destroyer will appear in the sector.
  • This is the only mission where the Independence Station turrets fire on Bora ships. After this mission, the allegiance glitches back to firing on GalSpan ships.
